It looks like there was a good amount of interest in our flooring so I figured I'd give a sneak peak! I finished most of the kitchen but still need to do a little bit more. I also need to go down the hallway and do the mudroom as well.
I'm taking a bit of a break from completing it, because my body hurts! The joints in my fingers are swollen and I have bruises in places I didn't know I could bruise (bruising the palm of your hand is possible, apparently). I also slightly strained/sprained both wrists when trying to remove and replace some stubborn boards. I'm a mess! This girl needs a break!
Note: It may sound like this flooring is crazy hard to put in, but it really isn't that bad. I think it is definitely a doable DIY project for people, but just be prepared for it to be time consuming and a bit tiring (and you may hammer your fingers a few times too ... I'm speaking from experience...). I'll go more into detail on everything once I'm completely done the flooring!
While I'm taking a break from flooring, I may work on getting the table all ready to be put together (I'm polyurethaning the legs and top separately since it's easier than doing it after I assemble everything). Hopefully, I'll have pictures of that soon!
Anyways, as promised, here's a sneak peak of my beautiful new flooring!
And just for reference, here is the old flooring:
I'm in love!! I just need to finish the kitchen, hallway, and mudroom and then add on some quarter round. It's going to look fabulous!

OK! You have another fan! This is great work and it totally transformed your kitchen. Kudos to you all for doing a great DIY project...not to mention...you JUST moved in! Ah-mazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eboni! I'm really happy with how it's turning out! I'm not sure I'd ever do this again right after moving in, but I'm in love with it so the pain may be worth it!
DeleteLOVE IT!!! The contrast with the white cabinets is great! I'll likely be doing our loft right after we move in, for the wife's office.
ReplyDeleteThanks Frank! You read my mind about the contrast with the white cabinets! That's the reason I picked dark rich colored floors!
DeleteGood luck with the loft! It definitely is a lot of work but so worth it when you see the finished product! I definitely recommend watching some YouTube videos!
Oh my Gosh!!!! That looks amazing! Congrats on totally transforming your kitchen!! We know first hand how bad your body hurts when you lay floor. We did it all in our old house. Get some Ben Gay and a warm bath!
ReplyDeleteSeriously that looks professional! It's gorgeous!
Thanks Bridget!! I love it! I'm so glad someone can sympathize with me on how much laying floor kills your body! Ben Gay and a warm bath sounds amazing!
DeleteSimply gorgeous! Those dark floors and those white cabinets are perfection!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natasha! I love the contrast and the warmth the floor brings!
DeleteSuch a HUGE difference! I love the change. Beautiful! And take it easy.. you'll get it done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! It has made such a drastic and amazing difference! I'm so glad everyone is loving it as much as I am!
DeleteI keep telling myself I can live without redoing the floor for awhile! Well looking at your kitchen, there goes that plan! It is beautiful! What a huge difference! Will you share color and brand? If you already did, apologies for asking again!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissie! I couldn't wait! This was just one of those things that I was so impatient for (impatient is a little bit of an understatement ... haha), but I love it!
DeleteI haven't shared the brand yet, and even if I had no need to apologize for asking! We got it from Lumber Liquidators. It's their Kensington Manner brand in Sandy Hills Hickory (color). Here's the link to the exact one we got http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/mm%2Bpad-Sandy-Hills-Hickory-Laminate-Dream-Home-Kensington-Manor-12SH/10026751 ... They have some other really nice colors too. We almost went with the "Warm Springs Chestnut" color which has a little bit more red (ours is a true brown color). One tip I have is waiting until they have their quarter end sale! We got our flooring for $2 a square foot so we saved a lot of money and we haven't seen it go lower than that (I've kept my eye on it because my parents want to replace their floor at some point). Once I'm done the floor I'll do a whole post about it with more details!
Wow!! You guys are amazing! I looove that color and so awesome that you did it yourselves... I think that makes it even prettier :). I can't believe how quickly you got this done after closing! Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Collette! I think we're a little crazy for doing this right after moving in but I love it!
DeleteLove all the pictures! We are starting construction on our Palermo in two weeks! Love the color of the doors you've painted.. and the kitchen table. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica! Congrats on starting your new home! So exciting! I hope everyting goes smoothly for you!
